Public Search of Trademark Step-by-step (IP India public search)
Open the official Public Search page
Go to the IP India Trademark Public Search portal (the government search). This is the official starting point.
Choose search type: Wordmark / Vienna code / Phonetic Wordmark = search text/name. Vienna code = search by design/image classification (for logos). Phonetic = search for similar sounding marks. Start with Wordmark for names and later try Phonetic and Vienna (if you have a logo).
Pick class(es) Use the Nice Classification to identify which class(es) apply to your product/service (IP India follows the Nice classes). Example: protective motorcycle helmets are typically classified under Class 9 (electrical/safety/protective equipment), while fashion hats / general headwear are in Class 25 — read the class notes carefully before choosing.
Decide search mode: Start With / Contains / Match With Use Contains for broad checks (finds partial matches). Use Match With for exact matches. Run several searches (Contains, Match With, and Phonetic) to cover variations.
Enter keywords, select class (one at a time), solve the CAPTCHA and click Search If you want to check many classes, repeat the search for each class (IP India asks one class per search input).
